Carril Remains in Stable Condition

King assistant coach Pete Carril remained in stable condition after suffering heart attack symptoms Saturday.

He missed Saturday’s practice after complaining of chest pains and was found to be in the early stages of a minor heart attack.

He was not allowed to have visitors earlier in the day Sunday, but several members of the Kings said they planned to visit him after their 99-91 victory over the Lakers in Game 3 of their first-round series.

Carril would have been especially pleased to see Predrag Stojakovic make a backdoor cut and take a pass from Chris Webber for a slam dunk in the fourth quarter.

The play--usually completed with a layup, not a dunk--was a staple of Carril’s offensive system during his 30 years as head coach at Princeton.

“I sent a message to Coach Carril [Saturday] after the practice: ‘Watch the game, we’re going to backdoor,’ ” Stojakovic said. “We did that for him.”

“We didn’t have a chance to talk to him [Sunday], but we heard he’s in really good condition.”

Reserve forward Tyrone Corbin’s left knee will be examined today. He strained it when teammate Jon Barry fell into his legs less than a minute after Corbin checked into the game in the second quarter.

Corbin did not return to the game.

He said he would take anti-inflammatory medicine Sunday night and have the knee rechecked today.

As for the play, which resembled an illegal chop block in football: “[Barry] should have got the flag on that one.”

The Kings are still waiting for Nick Anderson to join the series. He made only two field goals in Game 3 and scored five points. He has scored 22 points in the three games.
