UCI’s Nilsson Second in 5,000
UC Irvine sophomore Kareen Nilsson finished second in the 5,000 meters Sunday at the California-Nevada state track and field championships at the University of California.
Nilsson’s time was 17 minutes 7.38 seconds. Jenni Nelson of Nevada Las Vegas won in 16:57.97.
UCI junior Anita Sampson finished fourth in the women’s long jump (18-7 3/4) and sophomore Santosh Swamidass (El Modena) finished third in the men’s high jump, tying a career best at 6-9 3/4.
In Big West Conference softball:
CS Fullerton 6, Utah State 4--Amanda Hockett’s two-run homer in the sixth broke a 3-3 tie and capped a two-out, three-run rally for the visiting Titans (40-11, 15-3).
