Governor Announces Plan to Cut Park Fees
Standing amid the green hills of Tapia State Park in Calabasas, Gov. Gray Davis announced a plan Monday to cut state park fees in half and increase park use by Californians.
Speaking on the first day of “California State Parks Month,” Davis said he hoped the fee reduction would make state parks more affordable for working families, groups, associations and clubs.
“We created the park system for all Californians and now I want to make sure our parks are accessible to all Californians,” Davis said.
The proposed reductions will begin in 109 California State parks, museums and historical sites on July 1. Hearst Castle tour fees will be reduced from $14 to $10 on Aug. 1. Additional fee reductions--including reduced camping fees, day-use fees and boating fees--will be implemented at the remaining 46 parks Jan. 1.
