Construction of the Monarch Beach Resort Hotel is expected to be completed by spring 2001, with a grand opening scheduled for that summer.
The project consists of a 400-room hotel and 238 single-family homes.
The operator of the resort has not yet been named.
No date has been set for completion of the homes.
Edward Knight, the city’s director of community development, said the hotel is expected to cost nearly $200 million to build. The prices of the homes have not been determined.
Knight said the hotel will meet increased demand for rooms caused by a growth of visitors to Dana Point.
