* Arden Group Inc., Los Angeles-based operator of Gelson’s and Mayfair markets, reported its first-quarter net income of $3.1 million, or 85 cents a share, on revenue of $86.4 million, compared with $2.9 million, or 83 cents, on revenue of $78 million a year earlier. The rise in revenue was attributed to the opening of two new stores in the quarter. Same-store sales rose about 1%.

* More than 5,300 employees represented by the United Auto Workers approved a four-year labor agreement with Boeing Co., the world’s biggest aircraft maker and largest Southern California employer, the union said. The contracts cover more than 5,200 Local 148 members in Long Beach and about 120 from Local 1482 in Melbourne, Ark. The employees got bonuses of $1,000 to $2,500, further wage increases or lump-sum payments over the contract’s life and a 20% boost in pension benefits.
