Chances are “M:I-2” will be so action-packed there won’t be much room for music, but this compilation is explosive enough to stand alone. Limp Bizkit’s crafty treatment of Lalo Schifrin’s familiar television theme surges between brooding moodiness and distorted ranting. Other equally heavy-hitting tracks (many of which were written for the film) include contributions from Metallica (the group’s maiden voyage into soundtrack waters), Rob Zombie, the Butthole Surfers and Chris Cornell. The commotion calms down toward the end, for better (Tori Amos, Powderfinger) and worse (Diffuser, Tinfed), but overall this deftly assembled collection accomplishes its mission in blockbuster style.
