Richard Hughart; Boiler Plant Control Operator

Richard Kenneth Hughart, a retired boiler plant control operator, has died at the age of 75.

Hughart, who died May 10 at his home in Camarillo, was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Caldwell, Idaho, where he grew up and went to school. During World War II, he served in the Navy aboard the USS McClanahan.

After the war, he moved to the Pacific Northwest and met his future wife, Lucille Gustin, in Portland, Ore. The couple married in 1950.

A few years later, the family moved first to San Diego and later to Ventura County, where he worked at the Port Hueneme construction battalion base.

He was an avid history and archeology student and a longtime Lakers fan who also loved to watch boxing. He enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and working in his home and garden.

He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Hughart of Ventura and Susanne Moore of Eureka; two sons, Jeffrey of Ventura and Brian of Ojai; his mother, Delores Brus of Camarillo, and three grandchildren.

Hughart was preceded in death by his wife in 1985.

Services have been held.

Arrangements were under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo.
