A Lake Los Angeles man was charged with murder Tuesday in the shooting death of his older brother, prosecutors said.

Kenneth Marshall, 49, allegedly shot his 53-year-old brother, Robert, with a rifle during a dispute Saturday night, said Sandi Gibbons, the district attorney’s spokeswoman.

If convicted, he faces a possible sentence of 50 years to life in prison, she said. The brothers had shared a home in the 40200 block of 164th Street East, where the killing occurred, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Harris said.

Homicide detectives determined that Marshall shot his brother once in the upper torso.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and Marshall was booked at the sheriff’s Lancaster station and held in lieu of $1-million bail.

It was not clear why the brothers had been arguing, Gibbons said.
