Detectives from the Orange Police Department arrested a 13-year-old boy after he allegedly threatened to kill fellow students at a private school, authorities said.

The boy, a seventh-grader at St. John’s Lutheran School, allegedly told two students that he would kill three classmates on the last day of school, said police Lt. Jim Hudson.

The boy, who was not identified because of his age, was arrested at school Tuesday, and witnesses told police he had brought a knife to school last week.

He was subsequently suspended, said Gary Beyer, the principal at St. John’s. Beyer added that an assembly was held Wednesday to explain the arrest to students, and that he is confident the school had appropriate safety measures.

The boy was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing a weapon on school property. He was released to his parents, said Orange Police Lt. Jim Anderson.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
