Two women and a young child were injured Saturday when they were ejected from a car in a freeway crash that authorities are investigating as a possible hit-and-run.

They were southbound on the Golden State Freeway just north of Route 138 near Gorman about 5:40 p.m. when their car veered out of control and careened over the center divider, possibly because it was cut off by another vehicle, California Highway Patrol Officer Matthew Hill said.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a white Chevrolet Suburban drive off after the crash.

The 13-month-old girl was airlifted to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. She was listed in serious condition Saturday night, hospital spokesman Steve Rutledge said.

The women, ages 20 and 21, were in critical condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, said nurse supervisor Rose Morelli.

None of the victims was wearing a seat belt.

The girl had been sitting in a child seat, but it “was not properly secured,” Hill said.
