Pickup Loses Control, Crashes Into House

Share

Two workmen received minor injuries Monday when their small pickup truck loaded with broken concrete and other rubble lost its brakes on a steep hill, plowed through a garage and into a home’s bedroom.

No one was home at the time of the accident at 11:15 a.m., said Los Angeles Fire Capt. Glenn Maurer. The men, who were not identified, were taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Woodland Hills for treatment of superficial facial cuts and other minor injuries, Maurer said.

Neighbors said the incident was at least the third in five years in which a heavily laden vehicle has plowed into the same house in the 19500 block of Rosita Street.

The house’s driveway is at the bottom of Ellenita Avenue, a long road that winds down from the peak of the Santa Monica Mountains.

“One time is bad enough,” said neighbor Roger Leonard. “Twice is unbelievable. But three times, I don’t know what to say. That has to be harder than hitting the lottery.”

The 1975 white pickup crashed through a metal roll-up garage door, through the rear wall of the garage and into a small bedroom.
