SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A cement truck collided with a pickup on Ortega Highway in San Juan Capistrano early Tuesday, seriously injuring four people--including two teenagers, authorities said.

A 27-year-old woman driving west on the highway lost control of her 1994 Ford Ranger near the Santa Ana Freeway at 8:13 a.m. Her pickup swerved across the road and into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with a cement truck, said Mark Reeves, a California Highway Patrol officer. The cement truck went over the side of the embankment after the collision.

Both drivers were injured, as well as two 13-year-old girls in the pickup, police said.

The woman and her passengers were transported to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo with serious injuries. The cement truck driver, a 49-year-old Huntington Beach man, was taken to San Clemente Hospital & Medical Center with moderate injuries, Reeves said.
