Several Leisure World residents want to make sure the issue of rabbit overpopulation on the community’s grounds is not forgotten by the City Council. They say the estimated 5,000 rabbits and their fate became a political football recently after it was proposed that a partial eradication occur by the use of pellet guns.

Lou Eversmeyer, president of one of five mutual associations in favor of pellet guns, said the method is widely used. He questioned the police chief’s recent decision not to grant a permit to exterminators to shoot the rabbits.

Eversmeyer is waiting for a response from city officials, after requesting to meet with them on several occasions. Although the rabbit issue was not on the City Council agenda Monday evening, two residents challenged the council to take care of the problem.
