A Freedom Communications subsidiary has bought three free-distribution weekly newspapers from Irvine World Publishers.
Freedom Orange County Newspapers Inc., parent of the Orange County Register, purchased the Irvine World News, the Tustin Weekly and the Irvine Spectrum News. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The 52,000-circulation Irvine World News is absorbing the Irvine Citizen, a competing weekly published by the Register. The 27,000-circulation Tustin Weekly will be folded into the weekly Tustin News, a Register-owned rival that has 33,000 subscribers. The Tustin Weekly will cease publishing after June 3.
