Sheriff’s Captain Given Wider Duties
Newly promoted Capt. John D. O’Brien has been named commander of the Malibu/Lost Hills station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, according to department officials.
O’Brien said he joined the department 29 years ago to make a difference.
In his new post, he said he hopes to enhance the investigative and community policing training of the station’s deputies, who patrol the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Westlake Village and surrounding unincorporated areas.
“I want each of the five contract cities to feel they have their own police department,” he said Thursday.
Before moving to Malibu/Lost Hills, O’Brien, 56, was project director of the county’s Task Force for Regional Auto theft Prevention. The unit, composed of officers from the county’s various law enforcement agencies, targets career car thieves and organized auto theft rings.
O’Brien, a Thousand Oaks resident, had worked at Malibu/Lost Hills on and off during his career. “It’s great working back in this environment,” he said.
