SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

City Engineer Bill Huber said the city is a week away from resolving landscaping problems on Ortega Highway, east of Interstate 5.

The California Department of Transportation agreed to do additional work on the site after Mayor Collene Campbell last month wrote the department that the City Council and residents were “very disappointed” about the condition of the project. Reasons for the city’s dissatisfaction: Some of the plants, trees and vines San Juan Capistrano officials requested had not been planted, and erosion gullies were in disrepair. Both of those issues should be resolved, Huber said, with Caltrans fixing the gullies and agreeing to plant a tree and some vines in the next two weeks.
