* Francisco Navarro; Retired Railroad Engineer

Francisco “Frank” Navarro, a former foreman and retired brakeman/engineer, died Friday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. He was 90.

He was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Ocotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, and as a young boy moved with his parents to Dallas, where he went to school. He moved from there to San Juan Capistrano and to Oxnard in 1935, where he lived the rest of his life.

Navarro was a foreman at the Oxnard Sugar Beet Factory until it closed in 1959. Then he joined the Ventura County Railroad as a brakeman and engineer and retired in 1982.

As a young man, he enjoyed big band music and was considered an excellent ballroom dancer. He also had a beautiful tenor voice.

He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He enjoyed watching boxing and other sports. Among his favorite pastimes were deep-sea fishing and surf fishing along the Ventura County beaches.

Navarro is survived by his wife of 55 years, Matilde; sons Francisco of Camarillo, Robert and Mario of Oxnard; daughters Irma Paramo, Matilda Ortega and Norma Navarro of Oxnard, Rosa Navarro of San Marcos, Yvonne Fulladosa of Palmdale, Lorena Galvin of Thousand Oaks; brother Ray Villanueva of Oxnard; 28 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Viewing is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. today with a service at 7 p.m. at James A. Reardon Mortuary Chapel in Oxnard.

Final viewing will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the mortuary. An interment service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.

Arrangements are under the direction of the James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard.
