On the night of Nov. 17, North Americans may witness a very brief meteor shower when the Earth passes through a narrow swarm of debris
shed by a comet more than a century ago. Face east and watch for “shooting stars” during the 20 minutes before midnight. If we are lucky, we may see a dozen or more meteors radiating from the approximate direction of the moon (whose bright light will wash out all but the brightest meteors).
Details of this meteor shower are at Griffith Observatory’s Web site: https:www.GriffithObs.org/Skyinfo.html
