Mission College to Honor Veterans

Mission College will honor U.S. veterans in a ceremony today.

A color guard and drill team will pay a special tribute to veterans of World War II.

Rosalinda C. Gonzales, the college’s director of international students and veterans affairs, said the college chose to focus on World War II because the number of veterans is dwindling.

“[The Department of Veterans Affairs was] very grateful that we’re focusing on this particular generation,” she said.

Veterans and others with medals, photographs, uniforms or other mementos of war are invited to loan them to the school for a special exhibition to be on display until about 1 p.m.

A number of politicians, including Los Angeles City Councilman Alex Padilla and Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Sylmar), will speak at the event, which will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in the free-speech area on campus, 13356 Eldridge Ave.
