HUNTINGTON BEACH
The Huntington Beach Conference & Visitors Bureau chose a new publisher Tuesday for its annual visitors guide in hopes of distributing the 2001 issue by January.
The bureau’s board of directors awarded the publishing contract to Newport Beach-based Tacha Leider of Axis Marketing Group, after hearing presentations by six other applicants and accepting one withdrawal.
The bureau, a nonprofit organization funded by the city, was slated to begin distributing the tourist guide Dec. 31, but pushed the date back to March while searching for a publisher.
During her presentation, Leider said it would be possible to produce the guide in time for a January release.
A contract with Coatings Resource Corp., the guide’s former publisher, was canceled in September on direction from the City Council and City Atty. Gail Hutton. This was due to a potential conflict of interest with Mayor Dave Garofalo, who may have profited from the deal.
