Conservative vs. Liberal in Orange

Share

Re “Orange Unified School Board Has Abandoned Conservative Agenda” (Orange County Voices, Nov. 5):

It was an interesting article, although biased and limited. I do object to the last paragraph where Bill Lewis states: “A lack of managerial skills by only a few elected conservatives will succeed only in bringing liberals back into power.”

I would like to remind all who are able to read or think clearly and who are not brainwashed by a conservative agenda that liberals (radicals) have been at the forefront of most of the major changes for good in human history.

Examples: abolition of slavery, suffrage, child labor laws, the enforcing of civil rights, better working conditions, more humane treatment of the mentally ill, equal educational opportunity, fair employment rights, Social Security, the 1965 Voting Rights Act, etc. All are the result of liberals (radicals) thinking and acting.

Those liberals, as well as contemporary ones, were and are called troublemakers, fanatics, kooks and crazies by right-wing conservatives, who dragged their feet and tried everything possible to halt the progressive ideas listed above. I have yet to see a conservative refuse to accept a Social Security check or a conservative woman give up the right to vote.

* Lewis should be commended for speaking out against the school board majority that has oppressed him, but more importantly, oppressed its students. Orange Unified has wasted taxpayer dollars, accumulated huge surpluses as teachers leave for higher paying positions, sold out the community and environment by engaging in risky real estate deals, and managed to place themselves in every losing legal position imaginable, all while the school board has refused to take responsibility. I was proud to sign the recall order.
