SWAT Team Comes Up Empty in Search for Parolee
Police came up empty-handed Wednesday afternoon after surrounding a home and evacuating other residences because they believed a man had barricaded himself inside to escape arrest.
The episode started around 1:50 p.m. when Pico Rivera station deputies attempted to arrest a parolee on an outstanding warrant.
But he got away and was reported by witnesses to have gone into the house on the 8100 block of Bradwell Street, said Sgt. Vanette Ford, spokeswoman for Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau. The man was armed with a handgun, she said.
A sheriff’s SWAT team surrounded the area for more than three hours. But after a forced entry they found no one. Either witnesses gave them the wrong address or the suspect got away, police said.
