Police arrested an Oxnard man on suspicion of rape after a woman told them that she had been assaulted in the back seat of a car.

Lawrence Beasley, 27, was taken into custody about 10 p.m. Thursday after officers stopped him near West Juniper and M streets on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.

Beasley was bleeding from a head wound and partly clothed when he got out of the car. The woman, an Oxnard resident and acquaintance of the suspect, was in the back seat.
