SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Oak Park and Agoura high schools will compete against each other as part of Comedy Sportz’s “Competition of Comedy” on Dec. 8.

Comedy Sportz is a national organization that aims to bring improvisational comedy to cities across the country.

“Each competition involves two competing teams battling back and forth to win the audience’s applause,” said Harold Starr, faculty advisor for the Oak Park team. “There is a professional referee ensuring a family atmosphere and who accepts suggestions from the audience in order to make it an interactive show.”

Each team has eight competitors. The competition is similar to the successful television show hosted by comedian Drew Carey, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Starr said.

“It should be a great competition because both teams are very good,” Starr said.

Audience members determine the winners. The competition usually lasts about two hours with a 15-minute intermission. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The competition begins at 8 p.m. at Agoura High School, 28545 W. Driver Ave., Agoura Hills.
