Traffic and Crime

Share

* I was flattered that Thousand Oaks City Council candidate Ed Masry featured my picture in his campaign ads and mailers. Beneath my photo was a statement that read, “Seniors need someone on the council who cares about reducing traffic and crime in our city.”

A fellow commissioner at the Goebel Senior Adult Center Board of Commissioners phoned to remind me that the FBI has declared Thousand Oaks to be one of the safest cities in the nation.

This may be true. You can do wonders with statistics. Nevertheless, there have been a series of bank robberies in the city of late. A clerk was killed during one of the robberies.

Recently, a female shopper allegedly was raped in one of the dressing rooms of a major department store in the Oaks Mall.

The Goebel Senior Adult Center has been vandalized.

The two temples in our community have been vandalized. A convenience store near Wendy Drive and the Ventura Freeway was robbed. The corporation yard of Borchard Park was vandalized. The tennis court near Wildflower Park was vandalized. The windows of a neighbor’s car were smashed with a golf ball.

And--horror of horrors--every time I drive into a local gas station to fuel my Volvo, I have the feeling I’m being robbed.
