An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of between 6.1 and 6.3 rocked Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, killing at least three people and sending panicked apartment dwellers fleeing into chilly parks. State television in Azerbaijan, a former Soviet republic in the Caucasus Mountains, reported that two people had died of heart attacks as a result of the quake. It said there was no major damage to buildings. A 7-year-old boy was crushed to death by a collapsed ceiling, Russia’s Itar-Tass news agency quoted paramedics as saying.
