“A Chorus Line” Cast to Reunite at Benefit

An original cast member of the landmark Broadway musical “A Chorus Line,” Trish Garland said she’s in the same kind of shape she was in more than two decades ago when she played the role of Judy Turner.

On Monday she and a few of her fellow “A Chorus Line” buddies demonstrated how fit they’ve stayed through the years.

It was at a brief reunion to rehearse for an upcoming AIDS benefit in New York that will commemorate the 25th anniversary of “A Chorus Line,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical that opened in 1975 and became one of Broadway’s longest-running hits with more than 6,000 performances.

About 30 of the musical’s original cast members will perform the number “What I Did for Love” at the Palace Theater in New York Dec. 4 and 5.

Garland set up Monday’s reunion to help prepare for the big event. Joining her at her Sherman Oaks exercise studio was Donna McKechnie, who won the 1976 Tony Award for her performance as Cassie in “A Chorus Line,” and fellow cast members Ron Dennis, a dance instructor in Hollywood and actor Ron Kuhlman, of Van Nuys.

“We’re very excited,” Garland said. “The last time we were all together was on the Phil Donohue show in 1990.”

Dennis said it’s also a great opportunity to catch up with old friends he rarely gets the chance to see.

“I can’t wait to see them all,” Dennis said. “We’re like a family.”
