Hueneme Beach Wall

* Re “Barrier Grief: Residents Complain Wall Hinders Ocean View,” Sept. 28.

“Currently, a meandering three-foot sea wall is under construction at Hueneme Beach,” reads the press release from City Manager Robert L. Hunt.

Folks, there is no way to miss this ill-conceived project. Just drive west on Ventura Road and turn right. Aesthetics? Forget it. The ocean view? Where is it?

Emergency crews can’t access the beach. Police in cars cannot see over the wall. Graffiti covers it weekly. Picnic table access is restricted, and if you have small children, watch out: If they wander to the street side they can’t be seen.

Who is responsible? Try Mayor Murray Rosenbluth and Councilwoman Toni Young. Note that both are up for reelection.

The OK seems to come from the California Coastal Commission. Isn’t the commission supposed to protect the natural beauty of our coastline?

Maybe two months a year (if that), sand blows down the street and the city has to remove it. Compare that cost to the cost of graffiti removal 365 days a year!
