School Football Player Shot
An 18-year-old Carson High School football player was shot to death early Saturday when the car he and his friends were riding in came under fire from a passing vehicle, authorities reported.
Dominick Batiste, a member of the defending Los Angeles City Section champion Colts, was killed about 1 a.m. near the intersection of Cyrene Drive and Tajauta Avenue in Carson, according to sheriff’s deputies. Batiste was the only one hit by gunfire.
A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said the victim’s friends drove him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
