The Orange County Fire Authority has agreed to study the Laguna Beach Fire Department and give the city a report on its level of services, which could cost up to $60,000.

Laguna Beach requested the study after its firefighters complained of working in substandard conditions, including having too few firetrucks, staff shortages and aging equipment, which they say threaten public safety.

The results of the study could be ready in three months, when the City Council will decide whether to upgrade services, City Manager Kenneth C. Frank said. The authority agreed to the study at its Thursday meeting.
