The Port Hueneme International Film Festival will feature several local and foreign independent films today through Sunday at Beachfront Studio. The festival includes screenings of Canadian, Iranian and French films. Local films include “Enemies Within,” “Resolution” and “Lifeguards for Life.” A collection of short films will be screened today at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Friday at 11 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. The festival also includes a dinner and awards ceremony Saturday evening.

Dance Performance

The Marla Bingham Contemporary Ballet troupe will present three performances in a return visit to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza this weekend. Works include “Firebird, a Native American Vision,” “Something Different” and “Hoedown,” choreographed by Marla Bingham. The premiere of “Running Out of Time,” choreographed by Larrio Ekson, will be performed.

Family Fun

The Big Chili 2000, a food, music and western family festival, will feature 20 chili and food booths from area restaurants. Wine and local beer will also be served. The Saturday event will help fund programs for the Ventura County Humane Society. There will be three chili-eating contests with $100 prizes, as well as a mechanical bull, horseshoe toss and petting zoo. Local bands, including Raging ARB & The Red Heads, J.T. & the Zydeco Zippers and Maxx, will play throughout.

Christmas Concert

The Ventura Master Chorale will join members of the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra to perform Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” Sunday afternoon at the Serra Center at San Buenaventura Mission. Featured soloists will be soprano Jill Guth, alto Linda Foster and tenor Kenneth Helms. James Kenney, music department chair at Oxnard College, will be the chorale’s baritone soloist. Baroque Orchestra founder and music director Gregory Maldonado will serve as concertmaster under the baton of Burns Taft.
