Bridge funds--A story Friday contained inaccurate information about money Oxnard will be given to help widen the Santa Clara River bridge. The $6.5 million was approved by Congress on Friday.

The area has had a history of traffic congestion.

City officials were glad to get the news.

“We originally had requested about $8 million, but had no guarantees of getting anything,” City Manager Ed Sotelo said. “To have secured $6.5 million is outstanding. We’re delighted.”

Once completed, the project should be a boon to the area in terms of economics and convenience, Sotelo said.

“There will be a tremendous benefit for commuters,” he said. “This region will benefit greatly because of the ease of congestion.”

The project is expected to start in 2002 and be completed in 2006.
