Voter Drive Makes It Easier to Sign Up

Share

With only four days remaining to register to vote in the Nov. 7 election, Secretary of State Bill Jones on Friday toured local retail stores taking part in a special voter registration drive.

“Today, we’re hitting music and book stores . . . encouraging shoppers to register to vote when they pick up the latest CD or book,” Jones said.

More than 220 Wherehouse Music, Borders Books & Music and independent bookstores participated in Entertainment Day as part of the campaign. The stores supplied voter registration material to customers.

Conny McCormack, Los Angeles County’s registrar-recorder/county clerk, joined with Jones in planning Midnight Madness, a special event Tuesday to entice potential voters to register.

The Hollywood Bowl, at 2301 N. Highland Ave., is the designated site for Midnight Madness. Those who want to vote will be able to drive up and register from their cars from 4 p.m. to midnight.

The registrar’s office at 12400 Imperial Highway in Norwalk will offer extended hours to register on Saturday, Sunday, and the Columbus Day holiday on Monday: from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Norwalk office will be open during its normal office of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, registration forms and a deposit box for completed forms will be available in the front lobby until midnight.
