Domestic Partner Benefits

* Re “Board Hid Gay Benefits Vote, Critic Says,” Sept. 28.

What is it with people like Pastor Dan Nelson? They are certainly entitled to their opinions and beliefs, but they then attempt to foist this thinking on everyone else.

If Pastor Nelson is uncomfortable and disapproving of gays and lesbians, so be it. He can keep them out of his life and his church. But don’t punish this 10% of the population by denying them benefits to which they are entitled under the rule of equality for all.

The passage of Proposition 22 enforces the fact that gays cannot get married. This should not exclude them from benefits granted other couples. How granting this section of our community health benefits for domestic partners can possibly “discriminate against people who believe in traditional moral values” is beyond me.

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors is doing the right thing and should be heartily commended for its nondiscriminatory action.
