Montana Picks Up a Victory

Damon Parker returned an errant pitch 40 yards for a touchdown with 2:32 left and intercepted Cal State Sacramento’s final pass of the game to give Montana a 24-20 victory Saturday at Missoula, Mont.

Sacramento State (3-3, 1-3 in the Big Sky Conference) took advantage of three Montana turnovers to take a 20-0 halftime lead.

Quarterback Ricky Ray rushed for touchdowns of one and 44 yards, and Garrett White added a four-yard scoring run.

Montana (4-1, 2-0) got back into the game when Tate Hancock ran for touchdowns of one and nine yards in the third quarter.

Chris Snyder’s 32-yard field goal pulled Montana, ranked ninth in NCAA Division I-AA, to within 20-17 with 5:23 remaining.

Eastern Washington 20, Montana State 14--Alvin Tolliver returned a blocked field goal 67 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to lift the Eagles at Bozeman, Mont.

Montana State (0-5, 0-2) fumbled away its last chance at the Eastern Washington seven-yard line in the final minutes and lost its 11th consecutive game.

Lamont Brightful of Eastern Washington (4-2, 3-1), who returned two kickoffs for touchdowns last week, caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Fred Salanoa to tie the score, 14-14, with 3:33 left in the second quarter.

Portland State 40, Hofstra 35--Charles Dunn rushed for a school-record 324 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Vikings won a nonconference game at Hillsboro, Ore.

The Vikings (5-0), ranked No. 4 in Division I-AA, had 546 yards. Jimmy Blanchard completed 16 of 28 passes for 208 yards.

Idaho State 28, Northern Arizona 21--Nick Whitworth scored on a one-yard run with 1:37 left and Shane Griggs passed for 355 yards and three touchdowns for the Bengals (4-1, 3-1) at Pocatello, Idaho.

Marcus King of Northern Arizona (2-3, 1-2) rushed for 154 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that tied the score, 21-21.
