Road Widening Report to Be Studied

Share

A county board will meet for the third time in as many months to review a draft environmental report that could lead to a road widening in the unincorporated Nyeland Acres area.

The Environmental Report Review Committee is charged with making sure that draft environmental impact reports are technically sound and comply with state and federal laws. The committee twice has sent the report back to county public works with questions.

The proposed county project would widen Santa Clara Avenue from the Ventura Freeway to Los Angeles Avenue and Central Avenue between Santa Clara and Vineyard avenues. Residents of Nyeland Acres say the project will disrupt their quality of life by bringing a highway through their community.

Some Somis residents say the project is a small piece of a larger regional plan to build a road for trucks to travel from the Port of Hueneme to Moorpark. They fear that the corridor is being built without the legally required analysis of how construction would affect traffic, noise and pollution throughout the county.

The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, on the third floor next to the planning department.
