Chargers Will Rotate Quarterbacks
Desperate for their first victory of the season, the bungling San Diego Chargers will turn to two quarterbacks on Sunday at Buffalo.
Jim Harbaugh, coming off a three-interception day, will start for the Chargers, who at 0-6 are one of two winless NFL teams. Moses Moreno, who hasn’t played since suffering a right shoulder injury Sept. 17, will play the second quarter.
Coach Mike Riley said he isn’t sure whether he’ll rotate the quarterbacks again in the second half, or if one of them will play the entire half. But he plans to stick to his rotation plan even if Harbaugh happens to have a good first quarter.
“Doesn’t matter,” said Riley, who rotated quarterbacks only once before, when he was coach at Oregon State. “I want Jim to get a chance to start again. I don’t want to bench him, but I want Moses to play.”

The mother of Derrick Thomas has sued General Motors Corp. over the traffic accident that resulted in the Kansas City Chief linebacker’s death.
Edith Morgan’s lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court, also accuses ambulance workers and an area hospital of being negligent in his care. Morgan seeks unspecified actual and punitive damages from all defendants.
Morgan wants GM to release statistics that would show Chevrolet Suburban has had many rollover and roof-crush accidents that have injured or killed occupants, said Gary C. Robb, Morgan’s lawyer.
Thomas was paralyzed and Michael Tellis was killed when the Suburban Thomas was driving flipped on an icy road Jan. 23. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt, and Thomas, who was thrown from the Suburban, died Feb. 8 in a Florida hospital.

Indianapolis running back Edgerrin James was back at practice, two days after his brother was shot in the back. James had flown to Immokalee, Fla., on Monday after learning his brother, 24-year-old Cherron James, was shot. Although James originally told police he thought he knew who shot him, there have been no arrests in the case, and a sheriff’s department spokeswoman in Collier County, Fla., said James has since been uncooperative with authorities. James has been arrested numerous times on charges ranging from robbery to drug possession and resisting arrest. On Saturday he was in custody on a battery charge. . . . Denver fullback Howard Griffith had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and is expected to sit out at least two games. Teammate Terrell Davis, who is battling chronic ankle and foot injuries, might not return to the lineup until after the Broncos’ bye week on Oct. 29.
Defensive end Vaughn Booker rejoined the Cincinnati Bengals and began working out for the first time since he fainted during a Sept. 17 game against Jacksonville. Tests have found nothing that would keep Booker off the field.. . . Dave Szott’s NFL career might be over after Kansas City put the former Pro Bowl left guard on injured reserve. The return of the 11-year veteran, sidelined for the rest of the season, seems unlikely. This is the second time in three years he has sat out because of injuries to both arms. He previously said this would probably be his final year. . . . Buffalo quarterback Rob Johnson says he will start against San Diego despite tendinitis in throwing arm.
