Driver to Be Tried for Murder in 2 Deaths

A 36-year-old man who allegedly caused a head-on crash that killed two women in May while under the influence of PCP was ordered Monday to stand trial for murder.

Kenny Forward will be tried on nine charges, including two for murder, in the deaths of Michelle Mincey and Myesha Taylor.

Mincey and Taylor were heading north in the 4200 block of South Vermont Avenue on May 6 when their Volkswagen Beetle was hit. The vehicle’s fuel tank, which was in the front, burst into flames. Both women were rushed to County-USC Medical Center.

In addition to the murder charges, Forward is charged with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, battery on a peace officer and hit-and-run driving and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Forward allegedly caused a series of crashes starting when his car struck a vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard before swerving across several lanes to hit another car, police said.

He also allegedly hit at least one police officer after rescuers pulled him from his car.

Forward’s next court appearance is Oct. 30. He is being held on $2 million bail.
