Ravens Say Redskins Were Rude Hosts

Baltimore Raven officials are upset over treatment the team and officials received Sunday in their game against the Redskins at FedEx Field.

“We don’t want to sound like whiners,” Raven vice president Kevin Byrne said. “We got beat, 10-3, so we haven’t filed a protest with the league office, we haven’t called the league. The league office was there; they got to see what happened.”

The Ravens’ day began when they arrived at the stadium in seven buses filled with team personnel, including 75-year-old owner Art Modell. Security guards let four buses in, but sent the others away to distant lots.

“Not only did they charge $40 a bus, but when they did let us in, they sent us to the back of the lot,” Byrne said. “Fortunately, we were able to get a golf cart for Art.”

Before the game, the public-address announcer yelled a derogatory phrase about the Ravens’ fans that ended in a mild obscenity, Byrne said.

The rude behavior continued after the opening kickoff. As the Ravens approached the line, the announcer told the crowd, “It’s third down!” in an effort to drum up some noise.

League rules prohibit such noise as the offense approaches the line of scrimmage. The NFL is assessing the situation.
