Sticking by Their Guns

They are talking about firepower in Philadelphia this week, and the conversation has nothing to do with the development of quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Former Eagle linebacker Bill Bergey has recorded six radio advertisements for the National Rifle Assn. which have been airing during Eagle broadcasts leading into the November elections. In one, Bergey introduces listeners to the NRA: “We come from all walks of life. We’re police officers, engineers, members of the armed forces--even ex-football players like me. But we all share a belief in the right of responsible gun ownership.”

Which may or may not include former Eagle running back James Bostic, who claims he had 179 handguns stolen from his home in Fairborn, Ohio, this week.

Yes, 179 handguns from one household. Bostic, 30, provides the following statistical breakdown: 138 9mm handguns, 23 .45-caliber handguns, 16 tech-9mm handguns and two .380-caliber handguns.

“I think he was applying for some sort of dealership,” Fairborn police detective Andrew Stockton told the Associated Press.

Then again, if you had spent any amount of time playing for Philadelphia’s home NFL team, you’d probably become interested in personal armed defense too.
