Arts Alliance to Honor 4 Residents

Share

Four Thousand Oaks residents will be among those honored at the Alliance for the Arts’ third annual black-tie gala today at the Civic Arts Plaza.

The alliance, the Civic Arts Plaza’s fund-raising arm, will honor Janet and Ray Scherr, and entertainers Robert Urich and John Schneider. The Scherrs donated $1 million to the alliance in 1998, as the Forum Theatre was renamed in their honor. The couple also volunteer time to the organization.

“They’ve been a major force in helping the alliance thrive,” said Patricia Moore, executive director. “They really care about programming and enriching the youth of the community. They’re really interested in leaving a strong legacy.”

Urich, star of 15 television series, including “Spencer for Hire,” and Schneider, best known as Bo Duke from “Dukes of Hazard,” will be honored for their impact on the arts and on those looking to pursue artistic careers, Moore said.

About 150 people are expected to attend the invitation-only celebration at a cost of $225 per person. The event will begin at 5 p.m. in the Scherr Forum with a dinner and recognition ceremony. Attendees will either dance to the sounds of the Hodads in the Scherr Forum or watch a performance of “Evita” in the Fred Kavli Theatre.

The Civic Arts Plaza is at 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd. Proceeds from the event will go to the alliance, officials said.
