Echaves Passes and Runs Fullerton Past Buena Park

Michael Echaves completed 12 of 17 pass attempts for 212 yards and three touchdowns and scored another touchdown on a 14-yard run to lead Fullerton to a 27-10 Freeway League victory over Buena Park Friday at Buena Park High.

Fullerton (6-1, 2-0 in league) scored on its third play from scrimmage when Echaves completed a 52-yard touchdown pass play to wide receiver Daniel Fells. On the Indians’ next possession, Echaves found Fells with a five-yard touchdown pass at the 4:49 mark to make the score 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Echaves threw for his third touchdown of the game early in the second quarter on a 15-yard pass play to running back Ryan Murray.

Buena Park (3-4, 0-2) got on the scoreboard after Joey Alatorre intercepted an Echaves pass at the Buena Park 10-yard line and returned it 19 yards. The Coyotes then put together a 12-play drive capped by a 25-yard field goal by GullermoMontona.

After stopping Fullerton on fourth and three at the Buena Park 40 in the third quarter, Coyote quarterback Tho Thach scored from five yards to cap an 11-play drive and bring Buena Park to within ten points.

On its next possession, Fullerton put together a 77-yard drive and made it 27-10 on Echaves’ 14-yard touchdown run.

Fells caught six passes for 130 yards and teammate Brian Garcia had three receptions for 62 yards. Running back Evan Lopez led Buena Park with 55 yards rushing in nine carries.
