The Planning Commission on Tuesday approved construction of a Wienerschnitzel drive-through restaurant in the Imperial and Rose Shopping Center. The fast-food restaurant will be housed in a 1,650-square-foot building. Steve Sheldon, the attorney for developer Andy Zimbaldi, says the building would take four to five months to complete but there was no date set to begin construction.

The decision came despite the protests of resident Tony Khamo, who opposed the location of the restaurant as too close to a child-care facility that could be affected by odors and increased traffic. Khamo favored a project to build a Wienerschnitzel on the southern side of the city close to a residential area. The developers for that project, BZR Inc., are suing the city for $2.5 million.
