Driver Dies, Youth Held in Fatal Crash
A 53-year-old man was killed instantly Thursday morning when a sport utility vehicle ran a red light at a Mid-City intersection and rammed his car, police said.
Harold Clayton of Los Angeles was pronounced dead at the scene at Pico Boulevard and La Brea Avenue.
Police said Clayton was alone and traveling west on Pico at 3:50 a.m. when a sport utility vehicle heading north on La Brea and driven by a 16-year-old hit the car.
The driver and two passengers in the sport utility vehicle ran from the accident but were later arrested by Wilshire-area patrol officers.
The SUV driver, whose name was being withheld, was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Police temporarily closed Pico between Highland Avenue and Mansfield Avenue and La Brea between Venice Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard to gather evidence.
