Aliso Viejo residents who may be annexed by Laguna Hills next month could begin receiving city services in October, but will be shut out from voting in the November local election.
More than a 1,000 registered voters live in the Indian Hills neighborhood east of Moulton Parkway that is targeted for annexation, but they will still be considered Aliso Viejo residents for the fall election, said Rosalyn Lever, the county registrar of voters.
All city boundaries were frozen Aug. 11 by the registrar as customary 88 days before an election.
“It’s too late for them to vote in this election,” Lever said. “But any future election, it will be a done deal.”
Don White, assistant city manager for Laguna Hills, said he was disappointed by the news.
“I think it would have been nice for them to take part in their local government,” he said. “I suspect that will cause some frustration.”
