OUTLOOK

Century, which scored only 35 points in five league games and finished last in the Empire in 1999, has to overcome a problem it faces every year, according to Albert: “Lack of experience and depth.” Although there are several returning linemen, the Centurions have no proven quarterback or wide receivers. Junior Joe Rivera could wind up as the starting quarterback. Leite and Lockington could handle the chores in the backfield behind the blocking of Menchaca and Renteria, who bring size to the front line. Both Menchaca and Renteria expect to see action on both sides of the ball. A good test to see how far the Centurions have come should be their nonleague game against Ocean View, which is also experiencing depth problems, in the third week of the season.
