OUTLOOK
Things are looking up for the Aztecs, who ended their worst season in school history with only 17 players. Gardner expects to dress 40 players for the opener at Laguna Beach. “The kids have made a better commitment, and it started in the classroom,” he said. “We’re chomping at the bit to get going.” Gardner expects the strength of the team to be at running back and linebacker, where he has plenty of depth and talent. Mike Gomez, who will start at fullback and linebacker, is the Aztecs best all-around player.
