Scouts and ACLU

* Re “Suit Challenges Scouts’ Use of San Diego Land,” Aug. 29: I have never contributed to the ACLU because I feel that it defends good and evil indiscriminately. Nazis are entitled to a legal defense, but not with my money. Regarding the Boy Scouts, any group has a right to limit its membership to those who look, think and pray the way its members do, as long as they are on private property. Organizations in this country, good or evil, should not be allowed the use of public property if their beliefs or actions discriminate against any citizen.

“On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”

This oath is the foundation of the Boys Scouts of America established on Feb. 8, 1910. Why is the ACLU unable to comprehend the significance of this oath? Is it so hard to understand?
