The City Council has declared September “Selective Service Awareness Month.” The Selective Service system was created 60 years ago by Congress as a means of choosing citizens for military service in the event of war. All men are required to register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Registration cards are available at most U.S. post offices or on the Web at https://www.sss.gov.
