The Federal Aviation Administration has provided a $5-million grant for jet noise insulation to a middle school and 210 homes under the Burbank Airport flight path, airport officials said Tuesday.

Since the program began in 1989, 259 homes and four schools have previously been approved to receive sound insulation with FAA and airport matching funds.

Luther Burbank Middle School, already a recipient of some work, will get additional soundproofing valued at $582,000.

Airport officials say their goal is to soundproof 3,100 homes and eight schools in Burbank and Los Angeles by 2015 at an estimated cost of $130 million.
